The truss rod cover looks odd, some kind of homemade plastic over it.

The pickups are replacements, those are early 80's T.W. Doyle D-1 pickups made by Tom Doyle, he used to be located in Sussex County, NJ.
He used to be Les Paul's luthier! Those pickups are supposed to be low impeadance with a varitone type of tone circuit. Clean sound mostly jazz players liked them.

Perhaps "heavily" might be extreme, but the pickups and wiring harness have certainly been heavily modified. The bridge is a replacement, the master volume knob is now a switch, and two of the main control knobs have also been replaced. My guess is that the electronics have been completely gutted. If you'd like to see what an original X500 looks like check out my writeup:

As long as the body of the guitar is not modified and the price is commensurate to the changes it would be interesting to check out. One should be able to install original harness and pickups for a substantial discount. looks like an older model.
Thanks John

Read my post #2 above, this might be a good pickup system for a Jazz guitar that is installed!
Ralf

Quite possibly. I merely point out the changes because in my experience *any* change to an original guitar lowers its price. You could have a $1000 guitar with $1000 worth of upgrades and people won't want to pay more than $500 because it's not original.

Welcome to the forum! For starters, I would love to hear that guitar.

Secondly, it looks like there would be an extra and/or enlarged hole or two from the installation and I would think that changes the value. That cover on the trussed cover is just weird. It would very much be an easier guitar to buy than to sell.

By the way, where are you located? Where is the guitar now and how much do the sellers want for it?
[I don't want it, just curious]

I know you are looking at other guitars, so I hope that you find something you like.
