I own a '62 Duane Eddy that is in need for a neck reset. Nothing that normally would scare me, as I have several guitars gone through that process before. So I brought the guitar to a qualified luthier here in the Netherlands - 20 years experience and an official Martin repair shop - only to find out a few weeks later that he sais it cant be done (?)

He drilled three holes through the 15th fret position - but cannot find the space in between the heel block and dovetail. So he thinks there might be some other type of neck joint, or the connection is too tight to steam off.

So, anyone here have an idea what could be the problem ? And especially, does anyone have clear picks of the heel & neck pocket of a thinline Guild (Duane Eddy, or perhaps Starfire model )

(PS as I am sure many of you would immediately spring to mind - of course I also contacted fellow dutchman Hans Moust; unfortunately Hans has a big back log on repairs from his own customers to take on extra work)

fws6: One of the best luthiers in Northern California is Frank Ford at Gryphon Music in Palo Alto CA. You can contact him with your questions via email at the following link:

http://gryphonstrings.com/about_gryphon/contact.php

I would recommend you send pictures if you can upload them, a detailed description of the problem and a decription of what work or diagnostics have already been conducted by others.

Frank has done many rebuilds, I'm sure he can give you competent advice on solutions.

Good Luck

Wouldn't it be a good idea to have your luthier at least give Hans a call, though? I'm not surprised Hans doesn't have the time, but I guess if anyone knows what kind of joint there is in there.....?

My tech doesn't shy away from Gretsch resets, so maybe he'd want to tackle this, but I doubt he's ever had a Guild archtop apart, so he'd probably come to the same conclusion as your guy... (in any case, he's in Hoogstraten, which is as about as close to the Netherlands as you can get in Belgium)
