Well, this was unexpected yesterday. My magician friend Terry Godfrey had come by to bring me and my wife chicken tacos, and then had me come out to his van and gave me this odd square guitar--the Boxwood "Big Bird"! It's Oregon Claro walnut with an Alaskan Sitka top. Not the most lap friendly thing, but is is loud with plenty of sustain.
Last night I tuned it DADGAD and it sounds fantastic.

It's obviously the larger of the two. Terry is the best close up magician in San Diego county and we've been friends for almost 40 years.
When Vicki performed magic she used to go with him to magic lectures as she mainly did close up card magic--I go for the spooky stuff;
mentalism and spirit magic, as my hands are definitely "slower than the eye".
Here's the Boxwood site:

No. Terry had asked me to become friends on Facebook with the fellow who makes them about a year ago. I believe Terry had met him at one of his magic shows, and from what Terry told me I thought the guy made little cigar box instruments. I looked up the Boxwood website just this morning.
The volume and shape of these things would work well for a Hawaiian guitar--I think I may eventually try it with a nut riser. I believe the small one is still for sale on the site. Mine has sealed Grovers. Very nice workmanship for an unorthodox instrument--he even has a video explaining why he went with
his "Squarenaught" design.

That was the first thing occurred to me when I saw the picture.
