I've been working my way through colourising a load of black & white pics from the 60s and reached some showing my Guild Slim Jim, before I took an electric sander to it.

These are from a gig on Wed 13th July 1966 at Tredegar Workman’s Club. Tredegar, as I'm sure most of you don't know, is a smallish town in the South East of Wales. The most famous person to come from the town was Aneurin Bevan, who created the UK National Health Service after seeing how the local miners, of which he was one, created its own health service in miniature, in Tredegar.

The PixBim colouriser, I used, is not too bad. The shirts we were wearing are just about the right colours, certainly the singers. The Cherry colour of my Slim Jim was brighter.

Incidentally the packed audience of predominantly girls, was getting quite hysterical. I can’t remember exactly how high the stage was but from a couple of old photographs, the heads of people on the dance floor came up to our knees, so it must have been around 3-4 feet high.

Some of the girls reached up to the singer, Adrian and pulled him off the stage. You can see him reaching down to touch their hands in the third pic. The bass guitarist, Andy was the next to go followed shortly by me, just leaving Phil playing drums, with no other instruments playing. He stood up and shouted to the girls, ‘What about me?’

A couple of girls jumped up on the stage and dragged him down to the floor. The 4 of us were under a mass of girls trying to get souvenirs and being very friendly with us. It was very reminiscent of what had been happening to the Beatles, albeit on a smaller scale.

Adrian, Andy and Phil were lapping it up, but I was getting worried about my guitar. I was also a bit concerned at a couple of boys who became a bit jealous and started to put their boots in. I managed to get up and back onto the stage, with no apparent damage to the guitar. Even the jack lead, which had pulled out of the amplifier, was still intact. Within a few minutes, the club management had managed to calm the girls and the other 3 got back to join me and we finished our set.

This pic is from a later gig in around 68/69 and shows the Slim Jim after it received the electric sander treatment

Cool! In the second photo, your bass player has a "McCartney-like" look, especially his eyes and eyebrows - which may explain at least some of the girls behavior!
