Hi,

my sunburst family got a new member, a 66 Starfire XII

I never had a 12 string Guild and do not know to much about them.
Do you think the bridge is the original one?
Is there something that does not look original at first glance?
Unfortunately, a tuner is missing .... do you think that I can use a replacement without exchanging all of them?
I think the tuners are original, right?
I played it as a 6 string, sounds great The tone potentiometer from the bridge pickup does not work....

Thanks a lot, Ben

That's the original bridge. Not sure about repairing the tuners though. Your bridge pickup is turned around.
Welcome!

Nice!
Getting the tuner parts will be a "crap shoot" but the physical repair part would be straight forward. You install the "tuner" part by "snapping it in" under the two chrome "hooks" then drop in the string "stud" from the front of the headstock. Then carefully work the "worm" gear into place and install the screw head bolt. You may need a drop of "locktite" on the screw threads to keep it from coming loose again. Finally carefully press the down the two chrome "claws" to secure the "tuner" shaft a bit tighter. This can be done carefully with pliers provided you insert little blocks of wood or plastic between the plier jaws before squeezing.

As a side note... I have a M65 Freshman with the 3-inline cheap tuners that are useless in keeping the guitar in tune. I have been considering a similar repair approach to improve on the tuner stability.

BTW...in the middle position are your pickups out-of-phase?
On the SF12 that I owned years ago the middle position was out-of-phase. I always wondered if that was the stock setup, a random wiring reversal or if a previous owner intentionally reversed the wires to get the nasal out-of-phase tone.

Hi,

yes....I owned a 66 Starfire III with the same wiring
The middle position is very quiet, if you turn one of the two Vol. potis back a little, it gets louder

Beautiful Guitars! To me there is nothing like a mid 60's Guild Sunburst!

I have the same members in my Sunburst family! Can I assume the top guitar is a T-100D with an added tremolo?

While the metal bridge on your SF-XII did come on some Guilds as an option as seen on my SF-IV, my SF-XII has the wooden bridge.

Of course the GoG Sunburst collection extends a little further!

Congratulations! The Emerald Green Starfire XII I bought in 1980 was my first good guitar. I don't believe your bridge is original. Mine had an all-rosewood bridge with a compensated wood saddle component. Mine was a '67, though, so maybe I'm wrong. Wish I had kept mine. Enjoy!

Wonderful guitar ! Congrats! There is probably a good chance that somebody has such Japanese either 3 in line or 6 in line defective tuners in a drawer which could work as a spare parts doner. If Hans has nothing you could check with Ken Nash if he has a spare one.
