What a cool tune!

I suspect the recorded bass was not that standup bass she was playing. It sounded too clear and deep. Nice stuff.

The way that video was put together reminded me of this one.

Frono,

I can hear that girl in your video ask her parents to let her take shamisen lessons and they must have thought she would be so traditional!

So... you're saying I can take the bass player home, even though he's a fraud? Asking for a ... no, I'm asking for me... LOL!!
No, Tom. I think she played the bass for sure, but what she is playing on the video was not what was recorded. You can see her electric bass in another shot. It just sounds modern and electric not as much like a standup bass.

So, if you take her home, bring a van for her gear.

Something I had never figured out until my own Covid recording experiences but should have, is that many song videos are recorded separately from the audio track. So I am not surprised when there are instruments in the mix that are not on the video and visa versa. Similarly the synch between what is heard and what the hands appear to be playing can be off. I suppose this would not be a recent revaluation to me if MTV had been a part of my household back in the day.

Note that Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" was recorded with two basses - an acoustic upright and an electric doubling the part a tenth above.

Frono,

You're right on the video and audio not matching. If you want one section of the video I posted, while the singer is in the booth, you can see Lee Ritenour in the window behind her , in the mixing room, rather than playing his guitar. Very well known drummer and bassist in that video with Lee, by the way.
