More on "restoring" my '65 CE100D

Which version of a 1965 CE100D would you be most likely to consider buying?

  • Modified w/ late '60s / early '70s Gibson "patent sticker" humbuckers [current]

  • With modern Guild HB-1 set

  • With modern LB-1 set

  • With another Guild set (DeArmond, Franz, __?

  • Without pickups, I'll install my own choice

As detailed in another thread [https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index...d-restore-or-go-full-gibson-emulation.196589/], I replaced all the wiring with a Toneman kit designed for Gibson ES175 (PIO caps, Bournes caps, Switchcraft switch and jack). Happy with the results, but I'm thinking it's time for some herd-thinning, and this one might be the first to go. So, I'm looking for thoughts on what would make this most appealing to another: sell it as is, or "restore" it with current Guild pickups and sell the Gibson pickups separately? (I don't see a lot of vintage Guild pickups for sale.)

Personally I would keep the Gibson pu in the guitar. I like the reissue Guild pu a lot but it feels "wrong" to me to put them in a vintage guitar and certainly will not add "market" value.

There's a simple truth that I and many others have learned the hard way: any mods to a guitar lower the value even if you put in parts that double the cost. Therefore any work you do on it now will just be wasted time unless you part it out in which case you might make money. The only thing that would make it more desirable is original pickups, but since it appears to be routed that's not really an option without weird looking rings.

You *might* get more interest with modern pickups, but someone looking for a vintage Guild likely won't be impressed by modern pickups.

I would just sell it as-is.

Appreciate the advice; I went the "part it out" route and got a good price for the Gibson pickups, and am rebuilding with new HB-1s. (I don't have the patience to wait for original pickups to appear on the market. No, I won't ever try to pass the guitar off as original!)

At this point I'm trying to optimize the sound, whether I eventually keep it or sell it. Working with the full-size pots in the kit turned out to be a major pain, so I'm saving them for another project and starting over with dime-size pots that can go in through the f-holes. Now the question is capacitors. Anyone know the cap specs for the NS Capri, or any current model using HB-1s? As discussed in another thread, I have the original .010 mustard cap from the bridge circuit, as well as various .022 orange drop and generics, plus Russian PIO .033 and .015. Nothing on hand to match the original neck cap value of .047, but that could be obtained if it's worth it.
