Yeah I know, big deal, right??? I just bought this made in Mexico Martin DX Johnny Cash new for just over $500. I didn't expect much but I have a few projects going on that will require me to bring my guitar with me to a few different locations and I didn't want to risk my more upper end guitars. Plus, I've always loved black, not to mention JC so........

My reasonable priced guitar benchmarks have lately been of Blueridge, Eastman, Recording King and the likes but some of them have gotten a bit pricey of late so I gave this a shot.

I'l tell ya, I came away pretty impressed. It's a really nice sounding guitar for the money with boatloads of sustain, has electronics, a pretty nice Martin branded TKL gig bag and is one I would not be ashamed to play anywhere. Here's the specs (that are less than impressive, but I'll say again, it's a fine sounding guitar):

Martin DX Johnny Cash Acoustic-Electric Specs
Acoustic-Electric Guitar
Jett Black HPL Top, Back and Sides
Black Birch Laminate Neck with FSC Certified Richlite Fretboard
Performing Artist with High Perforamcen Taper Neck Shape
25.4" Scale Length
16" Fretboard Radius
1-3/4" Nut Width
20 Frets
Fishman MX Electronics
Chrome Enclosed Gear Tuners
Custom Stars and CASH

Here's a quick pic or two. I also just received a minty Guild GAD JF-48 also in black. Right now it has light gauge strings on it and still sounds pretty good. I have high hopes for it after I get some medium gauge GHS or D'Addarios on it. It's a pretty Jumbo for sure.

I find nothing about your Martin Johnny Cash DX but good looks and if the sound approaches the looks - you got another winner.

Nifty little guitar! I never heard of it, though I have played the Johnny Cash D-35 sig model that was discontinued years ago.

Somewhat off topic, but years ago the corporate brain trust decided to move a large percentage of the Engineering staff to Mexico city and other "low cost"locales. The Engineers they sent for us to train spent their off hours buying as many guitars as possible to take back to Mexico. Mostly Ibanez type ES-335 copies, but it seemed odd at the time. The availability of guitars in Mexico City was apparently limited.

Years later while I was contracting at IBM, the Engineers traveling from China loaded up with cheap household items to take home on the plane. They couldn't buy the stuff made in China that was destined for the US.

You can have your topic back now:)
