The "D" is normally DiMarzio. Standard in the '80's. What's your serial number?

Hello hywayace,

Welcome! If it's an M-80D, it's probably not an '80s guitar, but a late '70s model with the optional DiMarzio PAF/ SDHP pickup combination.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

If it's the one in your Avatar, it's definitely a 70s M-80 with option DiMarzios. I never knew such an option existed.

Yes the avatar picture is the guitar in question, so that is rare? I've owned it for about 20+ years bought it in the mid eighties, it's got some scars but still plays well, any idea what it would be worth?
Thanks for all the replies

With the rarer DiMarzios option, I couldn't even venture a guess, but I would say around $1,000 maybe more if you find someone who just has to have it.

Yeah, DiMarzios were an option on a few models in the '70's. My first response was typed on my phone so I didn't go into details. What I was saying is that the M-80's made in the '80's had the Guild XR-7 pickups which were made by DiMarzio. I don't think actual DiMarzio p'ups were an option then like they were in the '70's. As for yours - This is the first one I've seen so yeah, it may be rarer than the ones with Guild HB-1 pickups. As for its worth I couldn't really tell you. I wouldn't think the DiMarzios would make it necessarily any more valuable than other M-80's.

According to the Gruhn's Guide, this should be a M-80CSD, featuring Di Marzio PAF and SDHP pickups, as Hans already mentioned.
M-80CSDs were only manufactured between 1978 and 1979.

Hans, what are those SDHPs?

Super Distortion if I remember right. They were the aftermarket set that arrived in my red S-100 before I put it back right. Not a bad sound in the least.
