I notice that the banner advertising above the story is for an up-flushing toilet ...... coincidence?

This is being discussed at Mandolin Cafe, as well. Terrible waste of an instrument, but theft is theft.

Theft is one thing, but the flagrant abuse of the guy's job is monstrous. After all, surely he's there to provide some sort of respectful dealing with the dead and the affected family. If I had said to my family that I wanted to be buried with a guitar, and they were doing their best to honour such a wish, even in fun, then I would fully expect any gravedigger or attendant to carry out the deal without even making a comment.

Just an common or garden self-interested pri*k, seems to me.

The local news is having a heyday with this. You would think this loser would just shut up, hang his head in shame and take his punishment.

Greed knows no boundaries. He probably has a "respect" for jewelry and other things of value too!

What the guy did was wrong, pure and simple, but I have to confess I have not had much contact with religions or other beliefs that claim you can "take it with you". Thus I am saddened by the decisions made to bury a valuable or sentimental object with the deceased in the first place. It's not like we have any evidence it worked for ancient Egyptian royalty.

I agree, Frono, plus their stuff all got stolen too, by ancient graverobbers all the way up to the present-day archaeologists.

My dad used to say "I've never yet seen an armored car following a hearse."
