The pickup in my 512 wouldn't work today while at a rehearsal for a concert. I'm hoping it's the batteries, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, my amp's on loan for the concert. Anybody have any experience on battery life for this pickup system?

Brad, I would say it's nothing more than your battery.

I had a Takamine with a battery for the pickup. You couldn't keep batteries in it. I finally ended up taking them out every time I used it, fortunately it was easy to do. I have a Yairi CY-127 and I have replaced it once in 8 months.

Well, I replaced the batteries and got a hold of an amp, still no sound from the DTar. Anybody know how hard it is to work on these?

Sounds like a warranty thing Brad. Do you get one on a free guitar?

Not on the guitar, but I'm hoping that DTar might be separate. Even if not, considering what I paid for it, I don't mind having to put some money into upkeep. I think something shorted out. When I was putting in a plug on Sunday, it wouldn't go in, and when I added a little force, it burped loudly. Didn't think anything of it as this sort of sound often happens with electrics. Oh, well, I'll call DTar tomorrow and see who they have in the area who might work on it. It means that my part in the concert on Friday will be all acoustic, but nothing new for me.

Unless it requires a 12er, you could use Amigo, too. Maybe you could swap the DTars in a pinch?

Yeah, I thought about swapping them out, but I'm just as comfortable playing acoustic, we have enough mikes. I'm playing my 12 for my solo tunes and probably my Godin for my backup role.
I'll just find out where to take it and have them either fix or replace it. My F-50 and F-212 also have pickups, so in a pinch I could use the 212.
