I know there are lots of K&K fans on the forum. Inc. me I might add. I've installed them on several guitars. I've been curious about the new system that adds a pre-amp, volume control and pre-phase switch to the western/mini passive system. Yesterday I installed one on the "Orville by Gibson" J-45 in my signature.
Installation is very easy. Hardest part is gluing the three under bridge pickups in place, which is the same as in the passive system. The wiring to the battery, volume/phase control and pre-amp is all plug and play. No soldering. Bunch of velcro tabs to stick in place and that's it.
Before trying it out in public I played it thru a small acoustic amp. First impressions were good. Volume control is easy to use. Phase switch is easy to use and it does make a difference. It does seem to help control feedback and balance the sound across the frequency ranges. Since the dry run at home came out ok, I took it out to a open mic last night and was very pleased with the result. Next I'm going to add the pre-phase element to the existing passive system in my Martin. If I get brave I'm going to add another one to the D-60.
Some info from the K&K website.
