Re: Just got a D55
I absolute agree Chaz, but here's why I bought the F-50R on eBay:
Were it not for that perfect confluence of conditions, I wouldn't have considered buying. Also helping me was the fact that the auction closed on Christmas morning (something you're NEVER supposed to do on eBay), which definitely saved me some money!
Chazmo said:In all honesty, I think buying on eBay is a crap shoot. Of course, a return policy is nice, but ultimately you do it because you're speculating that you might like something and you're paying a cheap price (hopefully!!) for taking the risk. Getting "stuck" with something -- whether it's got problems or whether you just don't like it as much as you thought you would -- is inevitable if you buy on eBay a lot. You rarely get full disclosure, and often that's because the sellers are ignorant (or feign to be so).
I much prefer buying from people I contact on the guitar boards, particularly here of course!
I absolute agree Chaz, but here's why I bought the F-50R on eBay:
- I could see that there was still plenty of saddle left in the pictures. Having detailed pictures is a must!
By the condition of the body, I could tell that the guitar had not been played that much. Again because of the detailed pictures.
My luthier told me that repairing the binding on F-50s isn't that hard (read expensive) because you don't have to remove the frets to do so like some other guitars.
He surmised that the guitar probably had never had a truss rod adjustment which turned out to be the case.
Also, there was a seven day return policy clearly stated.
