I just puchased a 2009 Guild D40 Bluegrass Jubilee from Rocky at Streetsounds in NYC. I wont get it till probably the end of next week but I'm excited to check it out. I'm going to put a K&K PWM pickup in it asap.

I noticed on the Guild website and on the listing for the guitar I bought the scale length is shown at 25.63" instead of the usual 25.5 or 25.4. I wonder if that combined with the .013 strings will help drive that Adirondack spruce top a little better. I really like the new Deluxe Brown and tweed cases they have now too.

I will report back on this thread when I get it and I will post some pics of it. I paid a bit more to get one that was mint and was from the NH Conneticut plant just to see what the latest and greatest is like. Hopefully it will pay off.

I'm sure you'll like it, I got a really good deal (till I had to pay the govt import taxes) on a 2009 D50...Still ended up a good price though... it also has the red spruce top, and they did a great job on the guitar, I love the tortise binding and it is loud and has an unreal bass, as opposed to my recently acquired 79-80 D50 which has a different softer balanced tone..I think if you want to be heard and if you are a flatpicker or bluegrass guy the Adi. tops are tops...and they take a while to open up, so it will only get better....You'll be happy.....I'm sure.... :D Steffan

That is good to hear you are impressed with your D-50. I'm curious does the top seem thicker on your D-50 than other guitars you've played? I do wonder if that is the reason for the longer scale length.

Here is a link too the one I bought. I know it isn't the best deal but I figured it wasn't too bad and its cheaper than buying new.

25-5/8 is pretty much the standard scale length I've seen on Guilds. Virtually all the dreadnoughts and jumbos use it. There have been a few with 24-3/4", and I've seen 25-1/2 mentioned but I think that may actually be a rounded-down 25-5/8. (25.625)
What IS interesting is that Guild provided .012's on a most dreads until the New Hartford products, at least from mid 90's through Tacoma. It looks like the Adi tops were introduced in Tacoma, and I think it was on the D40 Bluegrass Jubilee. The Richie Havens D40 still gets sitka. Before that I've only ever seen refs to high grade sitka or no reference at all, unless it was something unusual like maple or 'hog. So the string change may actually be for the reason you suspect.

I just got the D40. I must say I'm very impressed great bang for the buck!! The whole package is great, the case all the case candy and the guitar are all better than I had hoped for. I will post some pics later. At first listen it reminds me of some of the D-18V or D-18GE Model Martins I've played which is a good thing considering how much cheaper it was. I'd be tempted to pick up a new D55 and D50 later. The fellas at the NH CT shop are building awesome guitars!!! This one was like new with the plastic still on the pickguard and case.

Well after playing this D40 through out the weekend a lot all I can say is wow. I have very very high expectations from an acoustic guitar, after owning a lot of really high end brands and boutique instruments. This new D40 is right there with them. It has exceeded my expectations on the tone and power front. The Fit and finish is good and its about what I expected it too be. IMO these guitars will compete tonewise with brands like Collings, Goodall, Santa Cruz. I don't know if they will compete on the fit and finish level but I'm looking for the sound! Great guitars.

It has a huge round powerful voice that sounds great for chording and for solo picking like you would expect a bluegrass guitar too have. The Adi top on mine is really nice, nicer looking than a lot of expensive brands adi I've seen. See my pics above. I like the look of the brown case even thought it feels a little bit cheap due to its light weight it is very stylish and it has 5 latches.

Has anyone played one of the GSR F Cocobola models?

Are the NH guitars now coming with those cases, which are the ones GADs come in?

I'm not sure, mind did, but it was used. I've noticed most of the other listing for new CT Guilds have black cases that look like TKLs. This one has a nice look and feel to it but it is pretty light weight so I can't imagine it would be very protective.

Hey, rockin,

There was only one model (F-40, that is) that was done with cocobolo. And, yeah, I think we have at least two owners on the board who'll hopefully chime in.

Congrats on the D-40. Wonderful, wonderful guitar!
