HI Red: Check out westerlyguildguitars.com You got my curiosity up and I noticed the 35's a little shallower and the scale length was an 1/8" shorter as well as a couple of visible cosmetic differences, but they do look to be from the same general period.

The D-35 pic on the Westerly Guild Guitars site appears to be an older D-35, with the smaller pickguard. According to Hans, D-35s got the more standard shaped pickguard in ~'69 (my '72 has the standard pickguard), the depth was increased to 5" in ~'73 (my '72 is still closer to 4-7/8"), and the scale lengths for Guild dreads (excluding the G-41 which had a 26.25" scale) were all 25.5". So if you're looking at older instruments, they would have the same scale lengths. I don't know when the dread scales all increased ~1/8" to 25.63"... was it late Westerly, Corona, Tacoma, or New Hartford?

One of the things I like about all my Guilds is how similar they feel to play... although I can feel differences in the necks, they are very slight differences... with the scales all being the same, I can tell where I am on the neck w/o looking at my fingers. I can tell the slight differences in the body size of my D-35 and D-44 (which at 4-7/8" are listed by Hans as being an 1/8" shallower, and the lower bouts seem a little narrower).

That is the one constant that I've experienced with every Guild I have or have had previously. The only difference, understandably, is with the 12-string. Duh!
My left hand knows the feel of the Guild neck quite well and it's certainly user-friendly. Good points made all around, Dave.

Dang me, I'm GASsed,
