Thanks Walrus that BBC show is awesome and one of my favorites of Joni live. I wonder if anyone here can identify these microphones used on Joni at the time. I've seen them used in a other high-end live settings but no one I've asked can identify them.

What I found was "AKG C28 (or maybe a 28a or 29 or 30 but that series anyway) with a VR 29 extension tube and whatever the windshield was called for those."
Here I found: "The C28 was available in 2 special versions, with extension tubes to be used between the amplifier bodies and the capsules. Often times, when used for vocals, a special AKG metal windscreen was fitted over the capsule. The version with the medium extension tube was called the C29 and the version with the long extension tube was called the C30. What I can not tell you is which version of the C28 is being used, the glass 6072 tube version (C28A and C28B) or the Nuvistor tube version, the C28C. Sonically, the mics sound the same and with the extension tube or not, and all are basically C28's.
The C29 and C30 were often used by the BBC for TV work because they sound great (the C28 is a classic) and the extension tubes are small and don't get in the way of the performer. Perhaps the most famous use of the C30 was to record the vocals for the Beatles rooftop performance in the film Let It Be. For unknown reasons, the normal metal windscreens were not used in Let It Be, and foam was taped around capsule. C29 and C30 versions are somewhat rare, but I have seen them turn up for sale now and then. Other than the extension tubes looking cool, for studio use, there is no sonic reason to have one of those as compared to a normal and more common C28."

That's great info, Thanks for finding that Ralf! It looks so classy on that set and in front of Joni. I'm surprised the style didn't survive the 70s.

Cheers
