Wondering if there is a post on this board that can detail the models of Guilds through the years.

Thanks.

HI Welcome aboard (according to your post count)...the more you read here the more you'll see that there are a huge number of variations of types. The Westerly Guild Guitars site is a nice start but is by no means comprehensive and is a work in progress.
One of our members Hans Moust wrote a book covering the first 25 years of Guild and is generally recognized here as THE go-to guy for specific questions. His "Guild Guitar Book" is generally available on line. Admittedly it only covers up through '77 but he's working on the second part. Your best on-line resource is rght here in the archives. Happy reading!

There was a post many moons ago... but I don't know if it would still be in the archives (I think some older posts have been lost in various crashes/upgrades).

But, even the lists on the Westerly site is incomplete... A couple weeks back I was interested in seeing how well LTG membership covered the available models of Guild dreads. So I thought I might start a poll, where members could select the models they own from the list of all Guild six-string dreads, and the server would tally the results. So, I used Hans' and Beesley's books and the SN list, plus other bits and pieces of info to compile a list of all the Guild dreads... note that I did NOT distinguish between finishes or +/- electronics, but did between major redesigns (flat vs arched D-25s, for example).

It turned out to be impractical... a poll can only have 8 choices. Here is the list of Guild dread models I compiled (the only specs I noted were the tonewood combos and the back structure, when relevant):

D-4 (spruce over arched mahogany)
D-6 (spruce over arched mahogany back)
D-15 (mahogany over arched mahogany)
D-16 (mahogany over arched mahogany)
D-17 (mahoganyover arched mahogany)
D-25 (mahogany over flat mahogany, ~pre-73; + Corona?)
D-25 (mahogany over arched mahogany, ~'73-'74))
D-25 (spruce over arched mahogany, post-'74)
D-25C (spruce over arched mahogany cutaway)
D-26 (spruce over arched mahogany?)
D-30 (spruce over arched maple)
D-35 (spruce over mahogany)
D-40 (spruce over mahogany)
D-40C (spruce over mahogany cutaway)
D-44 (spruce over pearwood)
D-44M (spruce over flat maple)
D-46 (spruce over ash)
D-47CE (?)
D-50 (spruce over rosewood)
D-50C? (cutaway)
D-52 (spruce over rosewood, from the '80s, not the mis-labeled DV-52s)
D-55 (spruce over rosewood)
D-60 (spruce over rosewood; Gruhn era?)
D-60 (spruce over maple)
D-62 (spruce over mahogany)
D-64 (spruce over maple)
D-65 (?... I found reference t this model, but no specs)
D-66 (spruce over rosewood)
D-70/D-70C (carved) (spruce over rosewood)
D-80/D-80C (carved) (spruce over rosewood)
D-100/D-100C (carved) (spruce over rosewood)

DCE-1 (spruce over arched mahogany cutaway acoustelectric)
DCE-5 (spruce over rosewood cutaway acoustelectric)
DC130 (maple over maple acoustelectric)

DK-70 (koa over koa)

DS-48 (solid or thin body dread?)

DV-4 (spruce over mahogany)
DV-6 (spruce over mahogany)
DV-25 (spruce over flat mahogany)
DV-52 (spruce over rosewood)
DV-62 (spruce over rosewood)
DV-72 (spruce over rosewood)
DV-73 (spruce over rosewood)
DV-76 (spruce over rosewood? Beesley lists this model... I don't think I have seen other mention of it)

G-37 (spruce over arched maple; morphed into D-30)
G-41 (spruce over mahogany large body/long scale)
G-45/Hank WIlliams Jr (spruce over arched maple; based on G-37/D-30)
G-75 (spruce over rosewood small body/standard scale)

Deco (spruce over rosewood)
Finesse (spruce over rosewood)

I am not even sure that this list is complete, or that I have all the tonewood combos correct. Some were rather hard to get info for... And this is only the six string dreads! My guess is there are nearly as many non-dread acoustics, and who knows how many electrics and basses (of course, Hans knows all!).

I soon realized that I couldn't put this list into a poll. Again, it may not be complete, and there may be errors in some of my sources.

Hi Konklifer and welcome to LTG. We had some on-and-off discussion about something more elaborate than just a model-listing stickie ... a couple of knowledgeable members looked at it and I think the status is ....

 .......... Maybe one day :( In the meantime, read The Guild Guitar Book. Welcome! CJ

Echo the cap'n - you want to buy Hans Moust's truly excellent book. You'll get great info on the early years and the beginnings of most models, and you're likely to get, as we all have, much enjoyment in the stories and the beautiful instruments. Buy it online or pm Hans. You will have no regrets.

I would second/third the suggestion to get a copy of Hans' volume I. Unfortunately, it only covers until 1977. Beyond that (and until Hans finishes vol II!), "Guitar History vol 5: Guild Guitars" by Ted Beesley gives specs for many models up until ~1992. Note as much of the historical context as Hans' book, and no color pics, but a useful listing, nonetheless.

Welcome. Seems like you already have most of the answers. Of course they only mentioned acoustics but Guild made electrics and basses, too. One source not mentioned is Grot's collection. He doesn't have one of everything but his pictures are pretty useful. I've also found this site helpful. But the bottom line is that, without constraints, your project will require a lot of work that no one has yet done and made available.
