Hi. This is my introduction to LTG. I play acoustic, chords and flatpick. Enjoy folk/country/bluegrass and especially roots/Americana. Grandma was an accomplished musician and gave me a few bucks for a guitar, so, I drove to Manny’s with some buddies and picked up a Yamaha FG-160. Still have it. Times Square in 1974 was a trip. My first Guild is a 1980 D40 second, purchased from Vintage Instruments in Philly before the internet changed everything. The nut is broken at the high e, but I am now in rural Delaware and have not gotten it repaired, and it is a true shame to put all that tone up on a shelf. I have to admit that I have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to flattops. I am not worthy of them as a player, but hope to get back to it soon. I will make more time to play, and I am looking forward to being a member of this great community. Dave

Welcome.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm not worthy of the basses in my signature. I used to say I "played at" bass rather than "played" but in my old age and as part of a deal brokered on the home front, I'm trying to play and practice more and that has to help. Doesn't it?

Always a pleasure welcoming another D40 Guilder. We're big on Guild pictures. Got some you can share?

Welcome to the LTG forum Dave, and nice intro. If it’s any consolation to you, you’re not the only one here who needed to readjust a schedule in order to set aside some quality play time. But take it from me, it’s worth the effort. For myself, it makes me a happier man, and that alone is reason enough. :D

Welcome, Dave! I'm fairly new here myself, but this is a friendly bunch. My first guitar (circa 1970) was also a Yamaha FG-160 - but mine was sold many moons ago. If you really want to get on the good side of this gang, pictures are a must! :)

Thanks for the hearty welcomes. I will get on the picture thing. I haven't settled on a luthier yet, but certainly open to suggestions and experiences from anyone in the Delaware area. I am probably overthinking it, not uncommon for me.

Cousin Bobby stopped by last night on his way south to the kin in South Carolina. We jammed just like old times. He brought some works in progress, paintings representing old time and other songs and Appalachia themes. Bobby is hoping to have a show in the spring. He is a little sensitive about someone possibly stealing his ideas, so I better not say much. To give you an idea, Hank and Hairless Joe figure into some of them. Cheers, Dave
