And you can hear Bob Dylan singing in background. This must have been at a concert etc and interview happening during Dylan’s set. So cool! You have to wait a bit to get to interview part. What this live 1964? He died in ‘66 so somewhere in there.

That was great! Multiple looks at his F30. I got misty when he talked about how the Bible says that the older men should teach the younger men and he was just glad he had something that they wanted to learn.

I have heard him say that multiple times in different interviews. that was super important to him. And while he was in DC and the north for 2 years, he and his family couldn't wait to return to his home town. I am glad he got to die in his hometown. While there was much strife, he loved the rural quiet life. and man his guitar playing, it might be my favorite of any acoustic player. I was trying to figure it out yesterday and couldn't even come close. it doesnt sound difficult till you try to play it.

Look at John Miller’s lessons on Stefan Grossman’s website guitarworkshop.digital. He is the man when it comes to all the little nuances of Mississippi John Hurt’s playing.

well, it's more the fingerpicking, I think I have grown up doing it backwards and it is really hard to change the attack. I think I have to work on the right hand first, then the left. The cool thing is he played a lot using G chords, C and F. And a lot in the first 3 frets. pretty much my favorite area of the fretboard, but I am coming in from a long long way off lol.

It’s all right hand lol! I can play a couple of his songs at about half speed and they still sound great at least to me. When he plays in standard tuning in either G or C he rarely, as you said, moves out of first position.
I only started playing a pandemic ago and I feel really fortunate that several much better players have commented on my right thumb. I’ll take it!

Found a cool "greatest Hits" album on YT, just letting it play out while working:

Mississippi John Hurt is getting a lot of love around here lately. Would this be a good thread to post a video of Dave Van Ronk telling a story about him?
