I think so too. Nito is one of the new generation of wunderkind players that play in this style.

Tim Henson of Polyphia is probably the best known.

There's also a German guy named Manuel Gardner Fernandez who plays like this.

To me it's such a mish mash of so many adeptly played techniques: hitting the strings, fretboard tapping, hybrid picking, thumb popping, etc. The music is also often highly melodic and a complete departure from standard blues-based rock.

It doesn't quite do it for me, but I can see how a lot of technically oriented players would like it. It's cool that they're moving guitar playing forward. Eddie, Jimi, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani did the same thing by using uncommon playing techniques and finger pyrotechnics when they burst onto the music scene.

+1. Extremely impressive in a technical way, definitely a "new" youthful style, and I have no clue whatsoever how they can do that! But not my thing. I find it lacking any "soul" or "emotion", but I am clearly not the target market.

That's what it lacks for me. My son is an aspiring musician/producer who tends to shy away from guitar-blues driven genres, the way that I tend to turn off when I hear music that's obviously completely composed on a protools or Ableton Live screen with a gazillion samples and plug-ins. He's dazzled by this kind of playing and the music.

At least these guys have real instruments in their hands, and they're mastery is undeniable. Due to the wealth of info online, they also tend to be super savvy about gear, theory, and digital production. In direct contrast to this is the musical background of someone like George Benson or Johnny Cash who just ooze heart, soul, and mojo. Perhaps it's the direct influence of the cultures they draw from? I don't know. What do I know? Maybe years from now this new generation will be hailed as the guitar super heroes?
