Hi everyone. I'm new here and I've been hanging around, lurking, because I'm about to buy a new guitar and it likely will be a Guild.

I've had my eye on an Ebay F-47 Bluegrass from the mid seventies. It would be around $800.00. A very fair price I believe but still a serious investment for me.The Chinese made GAD-30 appears to be a similar model for a lot less money, especially if I can find a used one. My local guitar store, owned by a friend, has a couple of Chinese Guilds, but only dreadnaughts. The bottom line is, I've never played a GAD 30.

When I started playing in the sixties, Martin, Gibson, and Guild were the Big Three for serious players. I know those old Guilds are great, and substantially less expensive than old Martins and Gibsons.

Can any of you help with info? Any players who own an F-47 Bluegrass or GAD-30?

welcome larry,

the gad30 is a great instrument, but none sounds same. some few are great, but I a/b`d 4 of them in a shop and only liked one of them. if it should be a beater, go for the gad. but an old westerly f-47 is a beautiful instrument when you want a keeper.
a lot of the guys here know or had a f-47 which I never played, but I would go for an american guild.

my 2 ct.

Thank you all for your posts and your knowledge.

I'm sorry to report a hitch in my plans. My car broke down yesterday. I'm guessing it's a broken timing chain. Goober will be here with his wrecker in about an hour to tow it to my mechanic. Yes, there really are guys named Goober around here. Guys named Bubba too.

Anyway, I'll hopefully know the damage later today but all major purchases are on hold until then. This guitar I'm considering, is, of course, strictly a response to a GAS attack. While my collection isn't the biggest or most expensive in the world, it ought to be sufficient for any sane man. Nevertheless, I'm looking for that one special instrument. Sound familiar?

So, while I wait for Goober and his truck, I'll check out the JF-4NT currently listed on Ebay. Very intriguing.
