But I think you folks are safe to tell: Our son (our youngest) and his wife are expecting!

I'm hoping for a boy to carry on the family name, but of course any healthy baby will be fine!
Congratulations to you and Mrs. Dread as well as Son and Mrs. Son!!

Very exciting news! Will be eagerly looking forward to the NBD (New Baby Day)!

Yeah, we've already got 12 grandkids, but this one will be special just like the others. And of course, Ma Dread is a labor and delivery nurse, but she'll be attending this birth as Grandma and let the other unit nurses do the delivery.

Congrats!

And for what it's worth (and not than family names mean anything), but my wife still has hers.

Congratulations and so true on healthy baby #1. But should it be a boy they might name him David Victor and call him DV.

Now there's a thought, but my wife put the kibash on naming one of our daughters Amanda Lynn.

If he were named after Ma Dread's maiden name, he would be "Boone.' I could live with that.

Can't imagine having that many grandkids. I have four and am pretty sure that's it.

BTW - My step daughter is Amanda Lyn (one n).

I certainly hope your son agrees that we're safe to tell after indicating that you're not supposed to tell anyone. I've certainly known of family strife coming from such things.

Nah, you guys don't know anyone in my family so you can't let the cat out of the bag.

Congratulations!

Some married women maintain their family's surname, including their children. No hyphenated last names either. It is not as uncommon as I thought it would be.

If you weren't supposed to tell anyone, why did you? ;)

I wanted to name our second daughter Frankie. To this day, she thanks me for not doing that.

"Anyone" meaning family and friends. Not that you folks aren't friends...

congrats and best wishes to all Dread. u mean the guy w the sunburst DV-52 and the flannel shirt? very cool!
also I know of at least a couple dudes that took thier wife's family name. a perfect example is Jack White, who many of you i'm sure are familliar with. He took his first wife Meg White's sur name when they married (and named the band the White Stripes)
