Here's another. I received the following message on my Facebook page:

Dear (my last name) , I am Mr. Simon Dornoo the director of the accounts & auditing dept in one of the leading bank here in Accra Ghana. I have in my bank the existence of a big amount of money that belongs to a customer, Mr.George (same as my name but phony), who happens to have the same surname as yours. The fund is now without any claim because Mr.George, died in a deadly earthquake in Indonesia in 2006. I am now seeking your co-operation to present you as Next of Kin/ Heir to the account, since you have the surname with him and my bank head quarters will release the account to you.

I want you to reply urgently so that I will give you full details on how the business will be executed. Reply strictly to my private email account: simonbank01 @ gmail.com [Link de-activated to keep any of you from accidentally clicking it. J] Upon the receipt of your reply, I will send you a copy of the Deposit certificate of the fund.

This looks like a way to collect email addresses so I tried to block the sender however, since the content wasn't either a 'credible threat of violence' or 'sexually explicit', it wouldn't accept my request; I 'submitted' several times ... no go:

That's probably one of the reasons I am not interested in Facebook etc etc. Another reason may be that I am a dinosaur. I have noticed I am not the only one here.

Didn't someone here recently put it succinctly, FB is simply a marketing organization masquerading as a social networking site? Oh, that was me. :lol:
What puts me off is the masquerade. And BTW, you pay your ISP or cell provider for access, right? I gotta wonder how much "stuff" is made available because it burns up airtime minutes, and is actually worthless, except that it's "available" on your "mobile device"... :evil:

Yes ... well ... sort of.

My kids and my brothers' kids are in their mid-30s; they and their friends are active on Facebook.

We also have a number of LTG members (and you know who you are :wink: ) who are active on FB. It takes a while to understand that 'your' wall isn't exactly yours. I enjoy looking at what other people post though; for example, one of our members and FBer recently bought a lamp ... how cool is that?

No ... no lava lamp but it's still an okay lamp.

FB is a place to make everyday sort of announcements; for example, a friend of my daughter's recently went to the grocery store ... I mean how is that for totally beyond amazing? When I saw that, I went like OMG :shock:

I took the trash out this morning; I was going to take a picture but I realized my camera's battery was dead and then wondered whether Scratch had a good BM.

I thought Twitter had bought the rights to monopolize that market. You remember, the "Tweeting is for Twits" campaign.
Facebook settled for the monopoly on Liking people. Or things.
They could learn a thing or two from Talky Tina:
