A mountain lion killed about 30 of the neighbors penned sheep in one night here a year ago, They shot him when he came in the following night, and then last spring a bear took 2 of another neighbors high priced targhee rams.

We keep finding wolf kills of cattle in country we don't visit very often but we don't even call them in because of the red tape it takes to prove it was wolves.

I had quit carrying a rifle with me all the time up until the reintroduced wolf packs moved in. The wolves that were here before reintroduction were way more timid and few in number. They took a few deer and elk and the occasional livestock. Nothing like the reintroduced packs which are so brazen they won't even spook away. They have no fear of humans.

There are some ranchers in the Big Hole who have come up several short on their calf count at shipping time. Costly.
