Sumlin recorded an album with Ronnie Earl & the Broadcasters for the Black Top / Rounder label in the '80s. I was working for the label at the time.
The band and Sumlin toured together to support the album and when the tour hit Boston, Ronnie brought Sumlin over to visit the offices.
I was going downstairs with my bike over my shoulder just as Hubert rounded the corner to go upstairs, and we collided! I apologized of course; he said "Hey, no problem!", and we both laughed.
As I rode my bike home, I thought of some of the incredible riffs Sumlin played on my beloved Howlin' Wolf records, records I'd been listening to since high school.
In a way, we each left an impression on the other!
