You might have to rent a spectral analyzer.

Don't you tempt me with testing equipment. That's another problem area for me...

Wow that really does look holographic. So depending on the angle the color will shift / change, right?

I love sparkle guitars and have several. I have been smitten with them ever since I saw the red and blue sparkle Les Paul Deluxe's in the mid-'70's. I've never seen one of these Guilds in person and for some reason they never appealed to me but I think it was because of the quality of the other photographs. . Your photos do much greater justice to the finish on this model and I think I may have underestimated them.

I won't derail this thread but maybe I'll start a sparkle guitar thread and post a couple photos. (I wouldn't want to post any photos in one of your threads anyway because they would be too amateurish in comparison!)

Wow! Looking at that hollowflake is like looking into deep space. I'm happy you grabbed one of these.

Funny you mentioned it looks like deep space. G&L has a finish called "Galaxy Black". It's a deep black gloss base with those holoflake sparkles in it, but applied much more sparsely. It's not anywhere near as densely sparkly as this Guild, but it's cool in that the sparkles change color with a change in viewing angle.

That sounds like Guild's Black Sparkle like this:

This is a finish Kauer calls “Nebula”. If you look closely you can see red and blue sparkles among the silver and gold. It’s beautiful.

Okay I've not said anything so far because I don't know what to say. I love it. It's beautiful. I know from photos I'm not getting the full impact and that bothers me but I just keep going back and looking and then stop. Then I open this thread in a separate window so I can just click over a window and look some more. So I'm impressed and stunned and a bit lost how to respond, you know? I love it! It fascinates me and makes me a little crazy (which on top of the base crazy I am makes for trouble) and I just keep going back. You've had it for a while now and you've got some really amazing guitars of course. Do you keep going back to look at it? Because I sure do....... 🤩

It definitely catches the eye, Tom! I don't generally name my guitars but when I opened this one the name "Mr. Fabulous" came to mind which then made me think about how many members of the Blues Brother's band are no longer with us and it made me sad...

At any rate, wait until you see the back! :)

Here's the neck. If you zoom in you can see each little hexagonal holo-flake.

The finish feel smooth but appears to be ever so slightly rippled by the flakes. This is a reflection of one of my ceiling lights which would be round and look like a normal reflection on another poly-finished guitar:

I wonder why the flakes are hexagonal and not round?

I would have to imagine that they're somehow cut or stamped from a sheet, and in doing so having straight edges would mean less waste.

Edit - here's an answer from the world of glitter: how-glitter-is-made.html
There are different types and sizes of machines that are used for cutting glitter. Most machines have blades that cut the glitter into either hex shape pieces or square shape pieces depending on how the film is fed into it. Other machines die-cut shapes from the film. With some machines, the hex shape flakes are fed in at an angle and square flakes are fed straight in. Different blade configurations are used based on the size of the flake.

Its a lovely thing.
The photo of the neck appears - to my eyes - to be a bit darker than the photos of the front.
Is it like that or just a trick of the light ?
