I'm sitting here playing with a glorious '58 T100 that I found in my closet. You know you have a problem when you find beautiful vintage guitars you don't remember buying, but what a wonderful surprise it was!

Anyway, the tone knob behaves 100% backwards in that what would be zero (fully counterclockwise) has the most treble while what would be 10 (fully clockwise) has all the treble rolled off.

Is this normal?

Second question: My 1964 CE100D has the two volume controls on the top instead of the front. I found that odd but pictures online seem to indicate that this is correct. Is it, and was this the norm back then? I don't recall Les Pauls ever having that config, but then guitars pre-1970 are kind of a new area for me.

On the first question, no that’s not right. Somebody has it wired bass ackwards

I haven't pulled the harness yet but I figured I'd ask because who knows what they were thinking back in '58!

First question - too weird, but I have no answer. Second question - yeah, they are configured that way.

GAD, what's the nut width on that '58?

Haven't gotten there yet. I was too excited to find a guitar and just played it for an hour. :) I'm going to say 1 11/16", but I'll measure it later tonight when I pull the strings and do my normal documentation thing.

I have a very early fifties Supro lap steel that's wired backwards like that. I think it might be original, but doubt the T-100 is. Never know, though -- maybe a Monday/Friday guitar.

My 1966 CE100D has the Volumes as the front knobs when you're playing it but the top knobs when it's sitting on a stand!

In this photo they are in the "top" position!

Oh my! Beautiful!

Every '58 T100 or T100D I've looked at (a birth year) had a thin neck. That one is mint enough to consider hand reduction surgery!

Looks great!

Per your second question, I think it varies by manufacturer regarding the position of the controls. I can never remember which is which when I play a guitar that I haven’t used in some time. My Kay Swingmaster has the volume controls on the bottom (!) while in playing position.

that's a great looking sunburst plus I really dig the way those control knobs look

Thanks all! I love those knobs but I really dislike the tailpiece. Such is life. :)
