Help decoding a D40

Trying to decode the following sticker designation on a D40:
D040A11

Any help is much appreciated.

What is the serial # stamped on the headstock? It should be the same minus any suffix. My guess is you are misreading the handwriting on the label, because it was written poorly.

I think this is a 1987 D40. But what's the A11 signify? Anyone know?

That serial # would make it an '87. The A11 is a mystery to me as well. Perhaps Hans would know.

D40's are one of the best all purpose guitars I've heard.

D040A11 is the 'in house' code for a D-40 with a Natural Top, which ended up on the label during some years at the end of the '80s.
