They must have got slammed after they announced it on FB. I got to the homepage, but haven't gotten any page to load since. :? Their server might have crashed under the load. :(

Thanks for the reminder, Chris. George gave us a lot of pleasure through his music and life. Whenever I play the "All Things Must Pass" album, I'm simply stunned he was only 27 when he put that out, and most of the songs were written earlier than that. How does someone get so "spiritual", so "introspective", at such an early age?

BTW, if you've never heard it, his last album (released after his death), "Brainwashed", is excellent. Didn't get much airplay, but very very good, I enjoy it as much as ATMP.

I second the suggestion to take Brainwashed for a spin today. Well worth listening to - it's like all George's wisdom crystallised by that point. He knew he was going to be getting out of here, so he thought 'I'd better leave something worthwhile'.

It was George who...

Got the Beatles back together following their first trip to Hamburg, and booked them in the show that was the true beginning to their rise to stardom.

After George Martin had pretty much decided to pass on giving them a recording contract, broke the ice with a joke and the whole mood changed, and George Martin decided they were worth a chance.

Played an electric 12-string on a pop song...maybe the first time anyone had ever done that, in doing so he help define one of the dominant guitar sounds of the sixties.

Played a sitar and brought Indian instrumentation to western pop.

Organized the first big charity concert. He should be considered the father of live aid.

There's more but I need to eat.
