For a short time, I had a reissue Hagstrom Viking 12-string (made in China) that had this H-section truss rod. I didn't realize it was a Hagstrom feature going back to at least 1975 (when this ad was printed).

Interesting. I wonder if the Hagstrom patent is why some Guild 12's had dual truss rods and newer ones have non-adjustable carbon fiber rods.

A quick search suggests that "Hagstrom from Ampeg" was a distribution deal and not a sign of joint ownership.

I've owned many Hagstroms. Whatever problems the guitars from that era may have developed over time, the necks are not one them. They're never bowed, never twisted, and the I-Beam shaped truss rod means Hagstrom could make guitars with about the skinniest necks you'll find on an electric guitar. Great design idea.

That's a cool design! I had a Hagstrom many years ago - actually not mine but I "borrowed" it for years. No clue what model or anything about it, but it was a fun guitar!

I had that same guitar.

The rod rail may have contributed to it's great and very inspiring acoustic tone.

It was like the guitar had a rhythm box in it. Pick it up, and some fabulous 60's rock chord progression would jump out.

Recorded ideas on it often.

Something about the tone of a good unplugged electric really does it for me, like. quieter - wife appreciates it - acoustic guitar with more frets, easier to play.

The Swede.

Went to some kid's apartment to buy it. He had a brand new SG that looked really lame, and the Swede was "his dad's guitar", even lamer of him, but I bought it. It might have been haunted, kid made a serious mistake.
