I'm pretty new to the forum but thought I would share a little about the band I had been in for over 8 years (we recently decided to call it a day) called "Gypsys Kiss".
We were a covers band playing Classic Rock from the 60's and 70's. This included music of The Who, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Deep Purple etc.

Is that you on what appears to be a Brian May Guild?

Either way, great stuff!

It's actually a prototype of a faithful replica Brian May guitar made by my Japanese friend Kazutaka Ijuin (KZ Guitars).
The Guilds were really nice guitars but my prototype is virtually exact in woods and hardware.

I was basically using Brian's 70's stage rig: treble booster, Boss CE-1 chorus and Vox AC30's.

Thank you!

SouthernGuild, what kind of music do you play yourself? Are you in a band of any kind?

 Thanks for asking Mark, but, No, No band would have me as yet.....Though I DO have hopes of doing something like that years from now. Meanwhile I have lots of practice ahead. Progress is slow, but it's coming. My joy of playing, and motivation is high.....so I'm enjoying the whole journey.
My musical taste, and general knowledge, far exceeds my guitar playing abilities. I consider myself fortunate, as I grew up in a musical household. No one "played' anything, but the whole family loved music , and listened to allot of music, allot of the time. So many of my childhood, and growing up memories are backed with music!
I'm from New Orleans, and my Dad loved the old Jazz, and he exposed me to some great music, and legendary musicians. My Mom loved old country music ( Carter family, Hank Williams, Orbison, and greats from the '30's-'60's) She actually took me to the Grand Ol' Opry ( the Ryman) for great show. I loved it! My brothers are 15 years older than me, and my sister 10 years older, so I was able to really get into their 1960's albums, POP culture info and music too. That exposed me to so very much, beyond my young years. I was very fortunate.
So my musical taste is wide and varied....and seems to be ever growing and evolving. Thanks to LTG, I am still being exposed to new music ( allot of which is sounding like 'old music' again!) and musicians, as well as musical history, and I'm still enjoying the ride. :D
My "playing' and singing is coming along....I love the Old Delta Blues, acoustic mainly, but certainly not solely. I play a good bit of that ( in a Lightnin' Hopkins kind of way), but I also love to play and sing alot of singer-songwriter stuff, as well as general Rock and Pop from the 50's onward to today.
I'm trying now, to put in the time to lift my guitar skills, and eventually Play and write my own stuff, as well as play well the many songs that I enjoy.
I also play piano ( better than I play guitar, but I actually 'enjoy' the guitar way more) and I am learning to repair and restore ( as well as play) those beautiful old American Reed organs ( from the 1870's-1890). I'm loving them, and the whole history around them. I hope to incorperate their sound into my music.
Miles to go before I sleep.

I've been babbling.....Best I stop. :D
But, as to you.....Where are you taking all that musical tallent of yours, now that the Gypsys Kiss ( great name by the way :D ) is over? ( :?: ).
What music are you playing, and are you writing anything?...........Whats next for you?

Thanks for your reply. Interesting!

My family were all into music, especially my mother....she had so many records (mostly popular music of the 60's and 70's) and so I grew up on the great music of The Beatles etc. No one played any instruments though.
My main influences for playing guitar were The Beatles and Donovan (Scottish singer/songwriter). I started out on acoustic and quickly picked up the Donovan flat picking style...moving on to finger picking later. Electric guitars were out of my reach for a few years because of the lack of money (being poor!).
I was also a big fan of classic rock and prog rock.
By 1976 classic rock had pushed me onto electric guitar. I still enjoyed acoustic but by that time I had fallen in love with 12 strings and rarely played 6 string acoustic.
In fact I didn't really get back into 6 string acoustics until about 10 years ago, preferring 12's.
I joined a number of rock bands over the years but Gypsys Kiss was probably my most favourite. We all got on well with each other and the split was amicable. We all enjoyed Classic Rock so it was easy for us to have fun.

Gypsys Kiss is over now although we have joined up for a couple of party events. So maybe the odd gig here and there but nothing regular.
No plans to move into another band now. I am quite happy playing acoustic a little more than I had been doing. My recent purchase of the Guild has got my juices flowing, although I'm having a little bit of a buzzing issue that is with my guitar tech to deal with!

When I was a lot younger I used to write stuff but I haven't written any songs in a long time. Preferring to just play along to stuff I know.
Family, work etc limit me a lot these days.
