I had actually forgotten about a guy that I knew that is an actor/producer in Shreveport. I told him about it and he went nuts. First words out of his mouth were you need to keep this under your hat   , but what the heck, who better to run it by than you guys?

I do think a "channel" is a bit ambitious, maybe just a guitar show......30 min. to an hour? I also wrote the Texas Film Commission to get their input. Gonna be kinda tough when you know nothing about such things and work a full time job...and then some......sigh.

Could be a weekly, live jam session to start.
Maybe small gatherings on a live feed from different parts of the country. Solos are always good.

Just like a good song, the Guitar Channel will need structure: a hook to get started, a good story develops in the middle, and it ends with something sweet or maybe crushing......
Be fun to mix in some ethnomusicology, trace the roots of a song, and talk about all the different versions, and then play that sucker!

Just thinkin', 8)

I think you're on to something West. Cable has an animal channel, a gun channel, several cooking channels, a storm channel, several selling junk channels, why not a guitar channel?

A single show might be a good place to start. You know how we all love guitar porn... how about The Vintage Guitar-Hunter? Or a show where a different good player each week goes to a collection or shop and tries nice instruments and talks about them. You could do shows on independent Luthiers, guitars around the world, guitar electronics de-mystified, stringed instrument history (the series), home guitar repair (sponsored by Stew-Mac). Add in amplifiers and their repairs and mods, pedals, home recording, new gear reviews etc. and the list goes on.

I think this will give a new meaning to "American Pickers." ;) [if you haven't seen that show, it's about junk collectors/sellers]

In all seriousness, Jim, I actually think that a guitar channel would be a terrific idea. There are enough guitar players What you couldn't fill with guitar-related shows you could easily fill with targeted guitar performance. You could have specific time slots for acoustic, electric, bass, gear/amps, etc.... Imagine all the corporate support you could get for such a thing.

"Vintage Guitar Hunter". Now there you go, man. Don't forget the jam session at the end with the vintage axe that was located and purchased by the show's featured personality (some guy named Jim from Texas?).

I was thinking more along the lines of interviews, interviews about guitars. Talking with people like Chris Martin, Bill Collings, Bob Taylor, Gary Guild.........just to get their presepective on building guitars. Talk about the classics, the Guild D55, the Martin D28, the Gibson J45. Talk to luthiers and repairmen and show some typical repairs in a nutshell. Include things like new products, not just guitars, but accessories. Show what has been for years and what's new in aftermarket products with interviews from people like Bob Colosi. Talk to guys like George Gruhn and find out what's hot in the vintage market? Talk to guys like the "3 Amigos" that put on Texas Guitar Shows, the largest shows in the country and discover what goes into the production of such a large vintage show? Talk to the owner of Kyser, right down the road, to discover what's in their accessory lineup? About 30 miles from him is the builder of a more obscure acoustic, the Mossman. The potential material is endless. Every one of these folks being interviewed would enjoy self-promotion. You'd think the mere idea of such a show would spark the interest of the big builders.

Talk to guys like Steffan to find out what it's like living in British Columbia and how the Canuckistani weather affects his Guild guitars.....

But seriously stepping away from the absurd, lots of ideas and material out there, Jimbo!
