Hi,

I bought this wonderful Slim Jim in the rare T-100D Special version with the factory bigsby

Now the tuners are a bit worn out.... Does anybody know if there are tuners that fit without making new holes?

Thanks Ben 20230719_081508.jpg20230719_081455.jpg20230719_081445.jpg

A wonderful guitar, congrats! Replacements for those tuners have been the subject of discussion for a while, but I don't believe anyone has found a drop-in replacement yet.

Beautiful guitar!

It looks like the bridge has shifted. I don't know what the problem is with the tuners but you can see the mark on the body where the bass side of the bridge must have been. That might help intonation.

That's a beauty, Ben. Good luck with the hunt.

Boy, I don't know about those tuners. Those are some weirdly-shaped plates for sure. Before replacing them, though, have you tried brushing the gears off with a nylon brush and then applying a tiny amount of tri-flow?

I haven't found one yet, and I have been looking. Everything involved enlarging the peg holes, and I have been reluctant to do that.

Hi

the bridge has shifted slightly, but what you can see there is no marking for the bridge....that happened when changing the strings :)

Well, at least the back of the headstock is black so, worst case scenario, the old holes could be filled and paint touched up to look pretty much unnoticeable. Would be more of an issue with a translucent finish.

Very cool guitar - congratulations.

Didn't someone here write that Grover reissued their Sta-Tites? That would seem like a respectful modification...

I have not tried those, they might fit? Unfortulatelly they don't come with metal knobs:

Even better looking:

Fender's new 2022 Ukuleles (made in Indonesia) also is using those same tuners but even with the better looking oval metal buttons!

Another name "Golden Gate" (with better looking back plate):

DIXON is another brandname very often seen espacially in Europe and Asia:

So lots of stores sell them in various versions under their own brandnames, you would just need to find out if the size fits and who sells the version with the Chrome knobs like Fender is using.
A couple of hours on Google search will for sure turn up the correct Dixon (or other brand) part number with the correct style buttons (As I like that Golden Gate or Dixon style baseplate much better).

As pointed out, the bridge is akimbo, and that will have you tuning, and retuning, and retuning, and it will never sound right as the guitar "is not in tune with itself".

Brush up on intonation, then intonate the high/low E strings as best you can, and the other strings will fall into place.

To move the bridge without marring the guitar, lift up on the strings on the side of the bridge you're moving, the whole process takes less than a minute.

You don't have to wait til changing the strings to clean/lube the tuners, you can do it anytime, and Triflow is your friend around old/new guitars. I highly recommend it.

Hi,

thanks...The intonation is already clear to me..... When I took the picture, the strings were loose and the bridge was probably not in the right position, I didn't check it.

I look if I can get the tri-flow somewhere here....
