I have my eye on a used starfire 4 from 1997... somone removed the stop tailpiece and installed a bigsby.....

The original stop tailpiece is nowhere to be found and I would like to possibly remove the bigsby and re-install a stop tailpiece...

Does anyone know if the stop tailpiece screw threadings and width would be the same for say an epiphone or gibson ? So , I could easily buy a replacement off of ebay ?

Congratulations CajunBlues!

For that price, you got yourself a real good deal for that Starfire IV! :D

That price seems reasonable to me. Enjoy!

Nice to know I guess the price was good :)

I suppose there is a premium for all original, ebony fretboard, and sunburst Guilds... with original case... PeteOPeterson has a few starfires for sale, but none are like this one...

Cajun,

I would be careful with petopeterson. He does sell quite a few Guilds on ebay, but from what I can tell they are frequently not in the best of condition, and they are overpriced for the condition they are in. For example, the first Starfire on his site appears to be a more recent vintage (late Westerly/Corona). It is listed at 1K yet it has a break in the body, and it is missing the pickguard and original case. For that vintage of Starfire 4 you should pay only a few hundred more for one in nearly mint condition and with all of the original parts/case. You will do much better by looking elsewhere, but that is just my personal opinion as I have never purchased anything from that seller.

Guildman....

I agree with what you say... I did actually buy an X170 from him and it turned out to be a good guitar.... He certainly doesn't describe his guitars enough in the description... But he will answer whatever questions you have... They are overpriced I think because he is trying to make a profit by buying and selling Guilds... Kind of like a pawn shop on Ebay :?

ps... I wouldn't be surprised if he is reading all of this, but who cares... Just honest conversation right ?

As long as his descriptions are accurate he is entitled to try to sell his guitars for as much as he wants. I'm just trying to look out for fellow LTG'ers that want quality Guilds at a fair price.

The problem is that he's a flipper. He grabs up the good or great deals, which means we don't get them, then he sells them for too much money.

He and I went toe to toe over a guitar he had. I discovered the original ad, asked him about it, and the conversation went downhill fast. He also has a habit of holding guitars by the neck with one hand while taking pictures with the other.

I won't buy from him.

I agree. And I am wondering how he is able to find so many vintage guitars (Gibsons and Guilds) to flip... I don't think there would be than many oppurtunities to flip these guitars... and how does he get connected and find these folks without them going impulsively to the nearsest pawn shop ??

Is a mystery to me...
