Just curious what others thoughts are on the tones when the humbuckers are split. I played one this past weekend and the change was very subtle when split compared to other guitars that had this feature. I dunno, maybe it was just me, but not much of a difference for my ears.

If the guitar in question has LB1s, minihums are not a great choice for coil splitting so it wouldn’t surprise me if it doesn’t sound great.

If it’s got HB1s, I’d expect more of a difference.

Here are the specs from the Guild site. Like I said, it could have been me, but I have played plenty of coil split humbuckers and can tell when its activated, this did not have much of a distinct difference.

Those are HB2s which are supposed to be copies of HB1s in a standard sized pickup. I don't recall many people splitting HB1s and being happy with it, but I also wouldn't rule out there being a wiring problem. The wiring in those Starfire Is is not great.

Based on the wiring I found in my SC I'd be tempted to pull it and see if there's a problem. More details:

Edit - rereading my own review and I noted that one of the push/pull pots on mine was shorted to ground. Could be the problem.
