We spoke via email earlier. Mine measures out at 4 ohms, which would make it a 6 ohm speaker. From our discussion, I would go with an 8 ohm speaker, but finding one that would have a speaker basket shallow enough to clear the chassis is the bigger issue. After some thought, you really have three choices.
Find a speaker the same size as the RCA (difficult), have a new baffle cut and move the speaker as low as you can (easy, but no guarantee that you'll have enought clearance after all that) or build a tone ring adapter and install a 10" speaker(easiest).
Unfortunately, the RCA 12' speaker in there is more of a home hifi speaker than a guitar amp speaker and since yours has been converted from the stock 6-8 watt circuit 50L6 amp to a 15-20 watt Princeton/66J amp, reconing the speaker just means that you are going to blow it again in short order.
Then again, if the output transformer was changed at the same time that the power transformer was installed, then your amp will probably be looking for an 8 ohm speaker anyway. I would make a tone ring and audition 10" speakers.
My humble opinion. :)

Have a 12' Rola inbound to compair with the stock RCA. On another forum, JBL D-123's were suggested. If the Rola doesn't pan out, I'll check out the JBL's. they seem to show up on ebay quite a bit.

The original RCA 12 suits me perfectly well as a guitar speaker in my '55 Masteramp 66.

I've never felt the need to go looking for another.
Its got a good balanced clean sound that holds up very well even at higher volumes for a 10/12 watt amp.
Using the volume boost on my Barber Barb EQ, the amp and that speaker continue to surprise.
Of course what I want to hear out of an amp might be something different.

So satisfying when a quirky oddball amp like this performs so well......I haven't had my usual regulars, a '70 Princeton Reverb and '55 Gibson GA-20 out for several weeks now.

Steve....will be interesting to get your impressions of the Rola 12......

It's an investigation for scheffler's benefit. His speaker is blown and I'm only dropping $25 for the speaker. I'm doing this, just in case it can't be reconed for whatever reason. It's also an attempt to get my butt in gear as well. :-/
On another note, I finally bought a couple of isolation transformers and the 7 pound weight and the thinness of the early Guild cab makes me nervous.
