Hello. I found your group and thought you might be able to help me get some information about my grandfather's guitar. My grandfather was an Orchestra Leader (listed as his occupation on his death certificate) and died in 1973 leaving me his Guild Guitar. I still have it in a case. From what I can figure out, I think it is a 1959 Hollow-Body Electric Guitar (possibly T-100 Sunburst) from what others look like. It also has the crown crest at the top, possibly mother of pearl? It has a Guild Guitar Guarantee sticker on the inside with Serial No. 12-652 and the Model No. possibly reads "3100"? Any information anyone could give me about the history or value of this guitar would be so appreciated. Thank you!

Hello attymatheny,

Welcome! Without any photos I can't be 100% sure about what it is that you have, but since you've looked at other photos of Guild guitars already, I assume that we can draw the following conclusion:

If the serial number is indeed #12652, then the instrument is from the year 1960.

If the depth of the body is about 2 inch thick (at the edge of the body) then you have a Model T-100; if it has 2 pickups it was called a T-100D(P). It should have dot inlays on the fingerboard.

If the body is closer to 3 inch thick then what you have is a model CE-100. Again, if it's a double pickup instrument it would have been called a CE-100D(P). It should have block position markers on the fingerboard.

That's pretty much what I can tell you without looking at photos of the actual instrument.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
