I was walking through the local music store when a DV4 made in Westerly caught my eye. It still had the plastic on the pickgaurd and ZERO fret wear. It had belonged to a customer that bought it new 13 years ago and never played it. I tuned it and strummed it, and on the first chord it was sold. I put it on hold since I didn't have the cash on hand and will go pick it up this weekend. I got it for $499, which may have been a little steep. I instantly loved the guitar, so no justification was needed.

yup, case included.

It has a nice back too. It's carved with an arch in it like the old westerly d25 my lead singer owns.

You may not be getting a lot of sleep this weekend...maybe you can get Joe to give you a coffee recipe or 2 for his special coffee...I don't know what in them but he puts the energizer bunny to shame....and don't ask what happens when you put the batteries in backwards....  Steffan

Hello Rich,

Congratulations! Sounds like you're a happy man. I have two questions though:
Are you sure it was labeled DV-4 ......... and if so, are you sure it had an arched back?
One of the typical features of the DV-4 ( from Westerly) is that it had a solid flat braced mahogany back, which is different from the arched laminated back that you will find on the regular D-4 and D-25 from that particular period.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Nice to find a Westerly with such little wear. I'll bet it's wonderful! Post up some pictures when you can, and definitely let's resolve that model number thing (as per Hans' post).

Rich, if it's really a DV-4, I think it should be a solid, flat-backed mahogany guitar. That's probably what Hans was getting at earlier. In any case, we'll be interested to hear back.

Allrighty then. It looks like I got my numbers crossed. It's a D4.

Either way, I love it.

And yes.......I payed waaaaay too much for it, but as we know from previous discussion; no justification is needed.

If you love it, then you didn't pay too much, you paid just the right amount. Nice score.

Hello Rich,

That makes more sense,

Either way, I love it. And yes.......I payed waaaaay too much for it, but as we know from previous discussion; no justification is needed.

........ but I don't agree that you payed too much. That guitar retailed for $ 899.99 around the time the Westerly plant was closed and that was without a hard case, for which you had to pay an extra $ 150.00. Obviously most guitars do not sell for retail, but if it is a clean as you say, I don't think you've made a bad deal.

The most important thing is that you like the guitar and believe me ......... there are not that many U.S. made guitars you can get for 500 bucks.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Nice! I never worry about price if I'm looking at a guitar I really dig. If it sounds great, plays awesome and just plain appeals to me, I'll pay a reasonable price for it and be happy. Nice score!
