When I obtained my 1970 D-40, someone in its past had "refinished' the guitar, scraping off the original 'Guild' logo as well as varnishing the fretboard in the process. Anyway, the guitar is now feeling much better, thank you, but still has an unadorned ebony headstock. Anyone know where I could get a "Guild" decal appropriate (or close) for this instrument?

Do a little searching in the threads (I know, harder than it sounds!) Check for the term "logo".
My ever-worsening memory tells me that last time I saw this topic the sources were basically non-existant and a suggestion was made about making a stencil and using paint (or silkscreen ink?) of an appropriate shade.

Here's what you're wanting ................. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6410&hilit=sticky+thingies

These were made at a local print shop using "Arlon" ......... http://www.arlon.com/default.aspx

Any print shop should be able to make them. The material is extremely durable, and sticks like s#*t to a blue blanket.
I have two of these on the rear window of my courier van. They've been there for over two years ...... haven't lifted, haven't faded, as good as the day they were put there.

No, I don't have any left I'm sorry.

You can of course make decals if you have an inkjet printer and decal paper, or, have someone do it. I would say though, that the Arlon stickies would be more durable.

Can they be lacquered over ?

I don't know, I haven't tried it.

Oh yes ! They also SLSTABB on a guitar case.

For that, I'd spend the $$$ for a nice pearl (or better yet, ABALONE/PAU) Guild headstick inlay...that'd be SHARP! 8)
Any idea where I might look to find one. I have a couple of $$$ to donate to the cause.

Joe

Local luthier/repair-person, I guess...around here, I go to Jaime Brazos II.

You might do well to look around in your area. The guy who works on my guitars went up to Seattle a few months ago, and came back with some Guild headstock materials and inlaid logos.

Joe,

Several years ago, Hans gave out a few MOP GUILD logos which had been carved by Carlo Greco if I'm not mistaken. One day, I'll mat and frame mine on black felt.....just haven't done it, but a few of the longer tenured members here have them....you might check around.....but they're not abalone. We also got G shields and a small piece of MOP from which the logos were carved.
