The weather didn't really affect the Nashville shop, as they're on a high piece of ground. I called down there after I saw Brad Paisley picking up pieces of an acoustic guitar that had been flood damaged, and had visions of my beloved D50 floating down the Cumberland River. All was well according to Thane; they hadn't been affected at all. I suppose it might have set me back a little bit as more "important" people may have jumped the line ahead of me. I'm hopeful...

I was thinking more in terms of damage to the surroundings maybe affecting local supply of stuff and/or employees needed to stay on schedule. I saw that the shop itself got off well.

Quite possible I suppose, but when I talked to Thane he was confident that their supply chain and repair schedule would remain unaffected. The do repair an awful lot of guitars there, though.

You don't think they'd really prioritize some rockstar's guitar over yours do you? THAT wouldn't be fair!

I'd like to think that they wouldn't, but I wouldn't be shocked if they did. Once the guitar is there, whatever happens from that point forward is totally out of your hands. You know, I have a bunch of other guitars now to occupy my time, but every day I still feel like part of me is missing. That D50 is a huge part of me, and there's almost 34 of my 51 years of in all that wood.

Hey, maybe that void is what made me buy all those others (couldn't possibly have anything to do with hanging out here so much). Yeah, that's it...

I do not know how to properly measure the neck thickness of my 2002 Corona built D55, but it was the only Guitar that I knew I had to own just after a quick slide up and down the neck.
It has a thin profile neck that does not get thicker as I pick 6,7, or more frets away from the cowboy cords.
I call it a fast picking neck.
I do not dislike chunky necks and own a few, I simply prefer the feel of my D55. As a matter of fact I had a small builder measure it in order to copy its profile for a future custom build project.
To my ear the D55 features a massive, rich tone, with great string to string balance. But has a more mellow voice than D50BS. I feel its a Sitka vs. Red Spruce thing, both great, but each best for different styles.
I mostly bare finger pick my D55, and still have good volume. I really like the D50BS, but as a flat-picking lead guitar.
So I would ask, what is your play style before choosing one model over the other.
Just my thoughts,
Dale.

Thanks Dale, feedback added to my informal survey. And yeah, the stuff you're likely to have around the house like a tape measure wouldn't give a true idea of how the neck profile graduates. It'd just give a total circumference of the neck at any given point, but since the neck does get slightly wider, the total circumference measurement wouldn't neccessarily reflect the graduation in the depth of the neck.
