I haven`y seen any used Guilds in ages but in the past couple of weeks I have played four! I have always been most interested in the older guitars from the 50`s and 60`s but today was very impressed with a late 90`s D-50. What is the general consensus on the Corona guitars? Also this D-50 has a longer bridge than what I think of as being typical. Do all the guitars from this era have bridges like that?

you'll get mixed emotions regarding the Corona made Guilds but my experience with them has been despite having a different place of manufacture on the stciker, they are great representations of Guild guitars. My D25 is one acoustic that I will never get rid of and can say i'll confidently put up against any guitar in it's price range. I'd love to have a Corona D50.

A late '90s D50 would have been made in Westerly RI, though.

The D-50 has a Corona sticker, must be a little later than late 90`s.

Must be some time between 2001 and 2004. Should be a really nice guitar. D50s are great no matter where they're born. 8)

My 93 D 50 (westerly) is one fine guitar. It's bright and mellow, deep bass, ringing highs, perfect action, wonderful balance, loud, and has very simple, clean lines. But I tend to be biased and self-centered.

My wife says..."Do you know why everything you buy is "the best"? Because they are yours!"

My Dad always claimed that the things he had, like cars, tools, and guns, were the best.
Of course, that claim only lasted until he found a better best.

'Nother vote for Corona. My D40's a Corona. If my memory serves there were a few finish flaws let out which kinda gave 'em a black eye. If the finish is ok you're home free. Never heard any reports of structural probs.

I can't speak for older or vintage D50's, but I just bought this and I love it. A Tacoma made D50:

The D-50 I was looking at and mentioned in the post has a rosewood bridge and ebony fingerboard. I mentioned too that the bridge is longer than what you would normally see. Was this common of that era?

Hello Lee,

There might be some misunderstanding here. Is it possible that you're not talking about a late '90s guitar but about a Corona-made guitar? Corona production didn't start before 2002.
There were no D-50s made during the second half of the '90s. Shortly after the initial start-up in Corona several models saw the re-introduction of the '69/'70 style rosewood bridge ( well ......... kind of) , that had been abandoned during the early '70s. That bridge has a somewhat more 'elegant' profile. That may have been what you noticed.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
