Gigged out tonight at Ninfa's. About 1 1/2 hours into the set, a party of six walks (staggers) in. One was a singalong Neil Young fan; tipped $20. Looking back, I shoulda bought him another beer...

A friend who sings in a hard rock band allows any drunk who wants to come up on stage and sing with the band. He even hands him (invariably a guy) a mike and shows him how to hold it. Then the sound man turns that channel off. The drunk doesn't realize and thinks he's doing a great job, the audience is happy and there's rarely any problems.

I sit/pick from 6:30 - 9:00 in a corner of a small lake restaurant capable of seating about sixty folks max.

I just provide the background noise as folks are eating at their tables. The most in the room at any one time Friday evening was 16 or so. Folks are usually very courteous; some even clap hands following a tune although prompted by my wife and 8-year old granddaughter who is always faithful to provide applause and stare at other folks if they don't join in   The singalong group had obviously enjoyed an evening at a lakeside bar before coming by for late dinner. They were not obnoxious really, just joining in. It was actually kinda fun and the tip overdone. I didn't know what they had put in the can until the granddaughter yelled out "Hey Pa; look how much is in here!"

Maddie also does the break song:

Time to take a break
Here at Canyon Lake
Time to take a break at Ninfaaaaaaaaaa's...

And earned a two dollar tip for her rendition which many would judge far better than anything I provide as entertainment...

The owner and dear friend, Sandy, gives me an open invitation to play any evening I choose. We used to go about once a month, but I hadn't played in the past year or so. When the Graham and West clans visited last month, it kinda got me in the mood to go back to it. Friday was a nice moonlit evening looking out over the lake; Maddie and I had a great time. My wife finished half a novel and I was able to leave on this occasion without egg or tomato stains... (edited typo) Heading back in a couple of weeks. A fella has to have something to do in retirement...

Scratch, that's a riot! Gotta' admit, that's kind of a class act for a drunk warbler... $20 is serious gratitude!

I'm sure he was able to count a bit better the following morning (or perhaps more appropriately; the following afternoon)

Gosh, Ken, that would be an honor. As time gets nearer, just let me know the details. No need to split the tips jar. I'll be there as your back-up. You're the headliner. :D

Toni

P.S. By the way, your granddaughter is a cutie!

I kinda like Frono's comment about a duet :!: What tunes do you play, Toni? We could practice any evening there in the outdoor garden room, although that would be quite a haul for you...

Heck, let's just do the outdoor garden room practice session.....more of a jam session vs a performance. I'm sure between us we have at least a zazillion songs we both know. If not, I follow a long pretty good. This way, you, Pam, & I could just relax and have a fun time. Whattya think? :D

Good here! Nice screened in room overlooking Canyon Lake. Very nice, somewhat rustic setting. It will be warm!!! Most diners will sit inside where it has A/C... West, RussD and I played in the garden room a couple of years ago on Memorial Day Weekend. Had the place to ourselves; it was nearly 100 degrees that evening. West hardly broke a sweat:
