From what? I don't think the folks who love Westerly's are going to go out, sell them, buy New Hartfords and consider it an upgrade, but my own opinion is that anyone who chooses a Westerly for a future purchase will be doing so because it is a Westerly and not because it is a better guitar than a Hew Hartford.

Obviously though, opinions differ and it seems pretty clear to me that some opinions are unlikely to change.

While I can appreciate the dedicated craftsmanship and all the associated good vibes about the new direction for Guild, I don't plan to change my opinion anytime soon.

It's all good, :D

Yep. There are an awful lot of opinions that veer into dogma and vintage vs. new as well as "the best factory" and years of production fall into that category.

Not really, for me purchasing a Guild (vintage vs. new) depends on a few different factors. I have no qualms about buying a non-Westerly Guild, but my decision will ultimately depend on the bottom line: how much money and effort will it take to get a good guitar.

For example, I was recently in a situation where I could take home a early Westerly F30 for ~$1100. A little steep, but is currently being sold through a shop. The guitar is in desperate need of a refret/reset which will then up the price to a total of ~$1500. Great, I get a nice vintage beat up Guild with that drop dead opened over time sound for $1500. Keep in mind there is no warranty. I would rather pay $2000 for a new Connecticut F30 with a warranty from a shop here in town that I know and trust due to my previous experience. Consider the $500 difference as peace of mind. I have become a big fan of a guitar with warranty given my GAD dilemma late last year and other peoples threads on this site. But of course, that is me.

There is no one more set in the past than I am, but I would have to say when I buy a new guitar, I want a new guitar. And as Ridge stated, I would want to support my local retailer and if it costs a little bit more that is not a deal killer. And, while my mind still bounces between a GAD F212 and the new Standard we saw at the factory, it will probably boil down to what is available to try out when the time is right...but in my heart I want to support the American workers producing the brand.

...just gotta get past that satin neck...kinda "Taylor" for me...but the match in the body color and the neck finish is very good...

Just think of it as a DV4/DV6 with a gloss body

don't care much where the guitar comes from, as long as it speaks to me.

I was never one to really care where the Guild was made. I have seen and owned models from all sites that were fine quality Guild Guitars.

That satin neck on the Standard 12 string played awfully nice. I think I'll probably end up with one in the stable before long - heck, if they'd a sold it to me on Friday, I'd have written them a check on the spot!

Used Westerly Made Guild

or Used Corona Made Guild

Unless there is a entry level or intermediate priced NH Guild in the works.

Given the tour... makes it a hard decision. I have always like the sound of my 1980 G37, but, 30 years on from it's final finish coat it sounds a hell of a lot better than it did new. Now I played a couple of New Hartford Guitars last Friday that I thought sounded fantastic... One of them was a limited edition that, I'm certain, would stretch my limited budget beyond its breaking point. Problem is I feel like I'm getting too old to wait for another 30 years for a new guitar to sound like, well, like a 30-year-old guitar.
