Oh, she plays a Gibson, not a Guild.

She does play a Guild on occasion.

Yeah, Gillian plays a trusty old D-25M sometimes, Rawlings plays a 1930's Epiphone. This clip has become one of my favorite songs of all time, it's from the "Down From The Mountain" concert at the Ryman, held after the filming of "O Brother Where Art Thou?" featuring all the bands that were in the movie soundtrack. It's a great DVD, including Emmylou, Ralph Stanley, Alison Krause & Union Station with Jerry Douglas, and some of the last footage of the late great John Hartford!

One of my favorite clips, too, from a great concert DVD full of great clips. I have a copy and it makes nice background when you're busy with other things.

So, is it about "medication"?

Hmmmmm.......good point. It might have been about the bracelets........or the strings, or the picks, or the pickup, or the polishing cloth, or the amp, or the soundman, or the wine, or the room, or the lights, or the audience, or the flat tire on the way to the show, or the hangnail, or the music.

Love their music, and would love to see them live some time.

Went to see Peter Rowan a couple years ago at McCabes in Santa Monica and guess who showed up to play a few songs with him. What a great show (and I was in the 2nd row). Sorry for the poor picture quality but I didn't want to turn on the flash.

Saw Welch and Rawlings live in Boston about ten years ago opening for Norah Jones. The large crowd was awful, wouldn't stop talking during their act. Rawlings suddenly stopped playing and adressed the crowd, saying his parents were there to see him perform and could the crowd please show some respect....a gutty thing to do but non-effective with a rowdy Boston crowd—they quieted for five seconds then only got louder. Rawlings and Welch finished the song and left the stage. Show business......

Boy that sucks wontox, but I don't blame 'em for walking away.

I saw them here at a local college a few years ago, I sat less than 20 feet away from them in like the third row, it was an awesome show! Those two have chemistry!

They do make great music together.
We have a great venue just down the block and I'd love to see them here. If the venue reads any of the 20 or so entries I put in the suggestion box, they might be here soon.

Unlikely you will ever see Gillian playing that Guild anytime soon, I believe it was stolen quite a few years ago :( :( :( .
Saw them just about a year ago with members of the OCMS as the Dave Rawlings Machine. She was playing that Gibson, they never seem to change their guitars especially that old Epiphone Olympic that Rawlings plays. One of the best performances I have ever seen. Was standing in the "mosh pit" at the venue for almost the whole performance until the sciatica kicked in. Do not miss them if they come your way.

Harmony H-173 bought in 1960 (retired), Alvarez AC60S 2008, Eastman AC320ce 2008 "Hybrid", Guild GAD-JF30E(blonde) 2008, Guild JF55 1997, Guild D25M 1974, Martin Grand J35E 2009, Martin D12-20 1970
"I'm glad there are a lot of guitar players pursuing technique as diligently as they possibly can, because it leaves this whole other area open to people like me."

They are fantastic and I never miss them when they roll through Georgia, either as Gillian Welch or as the Dave Rawlings Machine. Do yourselves a favor and buy everything that has their names on it.

Excellent stuff! I think it is very interesting that they mike their guitars rather than use any sort of pickup - you don't see that too often. It sounds great!

You're not wrong there G-Dawg, Great Cd's ALL of them. when I have them playing and folks visit, they often ask "Who is that?",and often say "Ill have to get that CD", Even from folks who you wouldnt expect to enjoy such sounds. Just Great music.
Oh yea, you can add to that list the boys of 'Old Crow Medicine Show'. More great stuff.
