Franz's: What's the wire for?

So what's the purpose of the wire running between the poles?

The conventional widom is that the wire acts like a spring to keep the polepieces secured. I had wondered if their was electrical rational for it but I never noticed a difference with or without the wires.

Good to know I can remove it. If I can lower my poles a bit more it'll save me from a neck reset - at least for a while

You can also lower the pickup a little by carefully bending (flattening them) the tabs from the baseplate it's resting on.
