I actually bought a Fishman Aura some weeks ago ,while being in San Francisco . There's this store there on 4th and Townsend that had a clearance of the Auras, sold them all for $99, that's half the average price.
I was very curious and tried some different models. In the beginning they didn't seem to find the Dreadnought model, so I tried a Jumbo model, that sounded great with the dreadnought I was playing ( a very good sounding Blueridge ,with rosewood back and sides and adirondack top), This guitar had a Fishman preamp, so it was not and undersaddle pickup or a soundhole pickup, but the sound of the Aura was GREAT!, Of course I flattened every EQ on the preamp and mixer to have it as dry as possible.
After a while they were able to find the dreadnought model , I tried it but it had fair less volume , after a long A/B comparison I decided to buy the Jumbo model , against what Fishman advices ,and bearing in mind that on my Guild D50 and D25 I don't have any pickups, I only use a soundhole Fishman Neo D.
I 'm glad to say that once back home I plugged the guitar into the Aura and it sounds superb with at least 5 of the 16 selected sound images. A great improvement from the sound of the pickup, very airy, full of presence, body and character.
I 'm still in doubt that maybe with the Dreadnoufùght model I could have had even better sounds, but the only Dreadnough Aura I tried was not as good as the Jumbo model.
If someone from SF is interested I could provide tha name of the store, they should have some Aura left ,still at $99....
