Hi, it’s my first thread on the forum and a need a help with the Guild M240e.

I have an opportunity to buy a used Guild M240e, but, pay attention at pictures, some details intrigued me:

- the machine heads don’t have “Guild” stamped
- the strap pin isn’t side of the neck joint.

Search at Reverb I saw some M240e whithin strap pin and Guild stamped in the back of machine heads.

I attached the pictures.
Could you help me?

Thank you and greets from Brazil.

Welcome to LTG!

I think it depends of the year of manufacture. Some were shipped without a strap pin mounted, some had the strap pin on the side on the heel, so the previous owner mounted it on the neck heel cap, that is not done by the factory.

Also regarding the tuners I think that Guild might have changed the specs during production and they used a different manufacturer for the tuners.

I found an older GAD model that has the unbranded tuners.

So I would assume the D-240E which you look at is a model from the earlier days like from after 2016 or 2017 or 2018.

The production date is visible inside the body on the neck heel. It is coded in the two numbers agter G1 or G2, examples below show 2018 and 2019.

Looks legit, Fabio. I like the figuring in the wood. Very nice.

I think you can safely say it's a real Guild. There's not much incentive to fake a $400 guitar.

Sadly, you can't make that assumption, Dave. We've seen fakes of all kinds of Guilds from the past. I'm not sure we've ever seen a fake Westerly series, but I'll bet we will someday. Especially since these guitars are sourced out of countries where trademarks are not protected.

I'm big fan of the M240e. I bought one to keep myself from buying an M40. That did not work. But . . . I love both guitars for different reasons. The M240 stands on it's own. The arch back with new-ish strings adds some unexpected volume and sustain. With old dead strings it almost leans toward a classical or rubber bridge guitar, which is also really cool. It's a solid value in quality guitar.

Hi everyone, I have one more question:

The battery box close to the strap pin comes only in newer versions? In others the battery is inside?

Here’s the picture that seller sent me. As you can see, don’t have a battery box.

I can’t see the guitar in person because it’s in another state, far from me. =\

My guess is that there is a battery pouch inside the guitar - either on the neck block or on the inside of the upper bout.

I'd prefer this setup, as it gives you the option of changing the pickup without having an remnant of another pickup system. For example, I have Guild DCE1 with only the plastic face plate covering the old "barn door" pre-amp hole.
