Played the closing set at an outdoor neighborhood festival this afternoon. Our sound man for a number of reasons finally had me up loud enough. The drummer and I killed it, if I may say so myself. In fact, I will.

Playing a Bisonic or Darkstarred bass through an Orange amp and a pair of big Orange 1x15" cabs is one sweet sound.

Sometimes we all get happily sidetracked by our gear chatter, but this is what it's all about!

FWIW I have the Orange Terror 500 bass combo. it is a somewhat newer model, made in Peoples Republic of China. I got an amazing deal on it- half price basically brand new, and it came with this awesome cover. I have never heard a bass amp of that size deliver that sound, and in that case-at that price. You can't really get the thunder out of a small bedroom size bass amp, mine is more living room size but it sounds like a full on stage rig. it has 2 12s but the way they are arranged, it is designed to sound like a full stack. i would imagine this is a gigging bassist, or small club/coffe shop owner, bass amp dream come true. check it out-

also I guess Orange was the amp of choice for "Athfest" recently in Athens, Georgia. you can actually hear the bass pretty good in this video. Thats probably a lot closer to what Happy Face used. The band is "Bloodkin"

Well- In "digi-land", I've been using Amplitube's Orange AD200 and 4x10 cab models with DS and now NuSonic equipped Starfires for recording.
Love the sound. If I could quit buying basses and buy a "real" amp, I would be plunking the cash on the "real" Orange! LOL!

The AD 200 brings the semi-dirty sound I've craved, one side. (I love it enough that I bought a Bass Terror 500 as the backup since it has the same preamp circuitry, or so I am told. That's what I used on Saturday since gear has the tendency to "walk off" at these kind of events.)

My AD 200 is a totally modded hand-wired version. It replaced a stock version but I gotta say, in some ways I prefer the stock version in terms of the break up point.

I feel so inadequate because I am satisfied with the little Line 6 Studio LowDown 110. I haven't even tried the Newark Street Starfire through a vintage Peavey Series 400 which at least is driving a 1x15 at the moment.

Well, at least you have a non-digi amp with some power…. LOL!

This post made me realize I had to run the Newark Street through it. The first thing is that what would be a dining room in a normal house is now the guitar room and home to the guitars and equipment that are needed when one practices daily. Consequently, the first thing I noticed was that for just about every note I played with any volume, there was something in the room that vibrated at that frequency, so it was hard to tell what was a little bit of crunch from pushing things and what was just dishes rattling in a cabinet. It was fun moving all that air, but what was most interesting is that the sonic differences I can hear between the Starfires through the Line 6 were much less distinct through the Peavey. One more thing to ponder as I keep reminding myself I owe LTG some serious comparisons.

Hey Frono! That is something I can relate too. Since I moved I practice in a similar "live" room. It makes it hard to judge how a bass or amp sounds. Lots of "harmonic resonances".

On another note, may I say in passing that I really hate changing speakers in a cab? It's a pain in the butt. Thank you.
