No thread about Chinese made guitars is complete without mentioning Blueridge. I currently own two and owned a third until a friend pleaded with me to let him buy it. My BR163 squashed my Martin OM/000 lust.

Maury's, a dealer that sells both Martins and Blueridges, provides this comparison chart between the two brands' equivalent models.

I work at a local guitar store two afternoons a week, and Eastman flattops are a fairly good seller for us, I got to play more than a few of them. We also have some archtops.

The Eastman flattops are great value for money, pretty great sounding guitars, escpecially the all solid ones, some of those sound glorious.

I've seen plenty of sloppy finishing and cosmetic defects, from sloppy buffing jobs to sawdust or even a wood splinter under the finish, but I guess that's to be expected - they have to cut corners somewhere if you're turning out solid wood guitars for those prices.
The main area where they could really improve things a little are the frets IMO - the fret jobs are just a little too rough, and almost without exception could use some extra detaling.

Frets on the Guild GAD's and Blueridge guitars are much better, and I haven't seen any of those finish defects I see on the Eastmans. But the all solid Eastman dreads do tend to kick the GAD and Blueridge ones' asses soundwise.

I've seen the same sloppy finishes, and downright bad fretwork on Recording King (also MIC) guitars btw - which is a shame, because some of them sound really great.

Interesting. I've played Eastwoods that I've liked a lot and some GADs too. To my ear, the all solid wood Blueridges have sounded best, but these things are subjective.

Acoustic Guitar Magazine did a feature on affordable small bodied acoustics last year, in which they reviewed a few of the MIC guitars we've mentioned, including Eastman, Blueridge, Recording King, and an M series Guild. Here's the link. It includes video demos of all of the guitars too. http://www.acousticguitar.com/News-Features/11-Affordable-Small-Body-Flattops
