hey everyone

I've been curious for a while if there are any estimates on how many of each guild model was produced in the 50's and the 60's hoboken era? per year and such, I tried searching but no luck. Been curious of the production quantity of my 57' f-20 maple since a friend of mine really want one, but my own doubt in how easy it is to get a maple one.
Also how big a percent of their production were electrics and archtops at that time compared to acoustics?

If anyone has something on this that would be great :)

I think I have seen/heard of more D-100Cs (several owned/bought/for sale) in the last 4 years than I have maple-bacled F-20s (yours plus 1 on eBay)... I'd say they are pretty rare, now, regardless of how many were made! ...or so collectable that no one will let them go! D

I think Jeff has a maple F-20. Maybe one other on LTG, I think

Yeah I heard about hans, does his book contain this type of information? I've been thinking about getting that book of his sometime. But I'm curious about all models, f-30s, f-50s m-20s and such as well. And I think there are three maple f20's with mine on LTG, so two 57's and a 58' f-20 I believe.

They were made for three years
1956 3000-4000
1957 4000-5700
1958 5700-8300

during which 5300~ guitars were made. Now to figure out how big a portion of their sales f-20's were..

I'm really not sure if there are actual production numbers in Hans book, but it is by far the most comprehensive book ever written on Guild guitars. Hans covers Guild guitars from 1952-1977. We all eagerly await Volume II. You'll really enjoy it.

I seem to recall past discussions referring to sketchy details as to individual model production numbers.

Have we ever seen any pictures of Theem's 57 F20??? Serial number on mine is 4492

Speaking of Maple F20's, Jay Pilzer had an 86 archback Maple F20 for sale in Arlington. Noticeably heaver than my 57, bigger headstock & arched maple back.. I think the fretboard was wider too.

Here's my f-20, #4752, it's in for a whole bunch of work right now. new saddle/nut, complete rebinding, new pickguard, fret work, finish clean. Neck in great shape, no cracks, playworn. All its issues are non-playability related. Hope to get it back within a few weeks, I'll come with a series of pictures for sure.

I'll guess, if theres no real data, that theres only a couple of hundred of them made, and many that are gone or got playability issues. I should get my hands on Hans book.

Currently out of print. Expect to pay $50-$100 or wait and see if Hans negotiates a second printing. There is this place called a library but...

Theem, that's gonna' be a honey. Love the color and the patina. Enjoy the process.

Agreed with the other folk, Hans is the only person I'd trust to give a reliable answer to your question(s) about numbers, but no there isn't a compendium of this in his book. It's more like, OK, you have one from which year? Let me go dig out the production sheets and I'll tell you! :D

... and here being played by Jeff. That's bluesypicky's neck shown upper right-center. Might only be the aging of the finish on the binding but it has a yellowish hue ...

When I inquired about that earlier this month (June 2010) Hans said that his stock of hardcovers had been exhausted. If you want an autograph I think you have to find the book first...
